Minnesota United FC has made a significant move by promoting Cameron Knowles to head coach, effective immediately. This decision comes as the club prepares for its milestone 10th season in Major League Soccer. Khaled El-Ahmad, Minnesota United’s Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director, expressed confidence in Knowles, stating, "Cameron is the right leader for this moment in our club’s journey." Knowles has been with the organization since 2021 and has shown a deep understanding of the club's culture and player development. He began his journey as a video analyst and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the first head coach of MNUFC2, the club's MLS NEXT Pro side. Under his guidance, MNUFC2 strengthened the connection between the Academy and the First Team. In early 2024, Knowles stepped in as interim head coach, leading the First Team to an impressive start with a record of 2-0-1. His leadership has been pivotal in the club's growth over the past two seasons. Before joining Minnesota, Knowles spent nine years with the Portland Timbers organization, contributing to their 2015 MLS Cup victory. As a player, he made 103 appearances for various clubs, including Real Salt Lake and the Portland Timbers, and was inducted into the University of Akron Hall of Fame in 2016.
